Hey guys. I'm wanting to check out some traditional knives from other countries, and since I love the shapes of these sorts of knives I figured I'd start with Finnish/Swedish/Nordic blades. I'm not necessarily looking for just a puuko and leuku, but those are my main interests. Any recommendations for particular knives or companies? Pics would be awesome as well.

*bump* With all the Mora lovers, no one has advice on Finnish or Swedish knives?

Two words Iisakki Järvenpää. Finnish knife makers. The main vendor of such knives is not a proper member of this site in terms of advertising and we are not allowed to recommend such sites...it's called deal spotting. However if you google Iisakki Järvenpää, you will find a somewhat quirky and very fascinating website full of all things Scandinavian and Finnish and sharp. Shipping is just $6 and shipment is fast and personal...your shipping label will have been addresses with a fountain pen!!!

Here is an Iisakki Järvenpää set of a Leuko and a Puuko together. These are fantastic knives and not a lot of money.

From the same aformentioned site, look at the Wood Jewel knives. Lots of others on the same site. Personally, I don't care for the current Mora lines as I don't like plastic handles and sheaths.

Man, that looks pretty awesome. I have been shopping around, including Ragnar's site. I haven't heard any user stories about any leuku or other Finnish knives. How do they perform?

I don't have a Leuku/Puukko combo from WoodsKnife/Harri Merimaa, but I own one of his Karhu Puukkos and I love it. It's a gorgeous, and fully functional, piece of work.

He uses Lauri blades (not uncommon among Puukko makers in Finland) and hand makes each handle and sheath. You can see the process here.
