A bro's b-day is coming up and he mentioned me helping his wife pick out a knife. He's a hiking/survivalist type guy and one knife he mentioned is a puuko/scandi/bushy type knife. What I know about these knives is they are simple, awesome designs made by hundreds of makers. Too many to weed trough so I'm hoping to get some referrals from the survival peeps here.

His wife doesn't have alot to spend. I think $80 is the max, but she's hoping to spend less. Can anyone refer me to some great knifes in this range? Also sorry for posting something that undoubtedly has been posted a million times before just this week. Im at work and I cant do as much searching as Id like to and his b-day is fast approaching.

For $80 max price range, I would recommend that you/she visit ragweedforgedotcom and look at the offerings there. Ragnar is a great guy and good to work with. he offers a great selection of real quality Scandinavian knives which can be had for under $80 total (including flat $6 shipping) .

The Lapin line of Puukos woudl fit the bill in function & price, but I really like the Iisakki Järvenpää Kauhavalainen Puukko, with it's stacked birch bark grip for only $75.

In your price range and among the currently available at RagweedForge I would suggest you

the Ahti Vaara

the Iisakki Järvenpää utility (some great stuff at a very low price)

The Ahtis and the Lapin Puukkos use factory made blades by Lauri Metally Oy, the oldest blade factory in Finland. At Järvenpää they produce their own blades.

Among them the Ahti is surely the best fit and finish, still all this brands are kind of mass produced knives, with many human conducted making passages. Here you have a video of Lapin Puukkos making, to give you an idea of what I mean.

While you are visiting Ragar's site look at the Wood Jewel Knives #WJ-VI; The "Big Carving Knife
They are lovely knives with bone and birch handles and significantly less than 80

A pukko full tang knife is Grey Wolf knives Model # 4, blued, black walnut with a 1095 blade 3 1/2" x 1/8'
80 will bring you including the sheath

Looks like a lot of people here like Ragweedforge!

Here's a picture of the one I think is a great knife for $75.

Thanks so much for the direction guys! I've sent her the links and suggestions. There are some nice selections here.

Not sure if I am too late, but I recommend the Helle Viking.
You should find it for a little over 80$.
Best Regards

I love the Kellam Wolverine. The knife is decently priced, feels great in the hand, and is sharp as a barber's shaving razor. It is so nice that I feel guilty cutting certain things with it, especially anything that might mark the blade.
