I recently received a Condor bolo machete from the Machete Specialists. It is an awesome chopper. I didn't order the sheath at first as I wanted to make sure I liked the machete. Once I put it through its paces and knew it was a keeper I ordered the separate leather sheath for it. A member here mentioned that the sheaths currently in stock were/are leftys. I confirmed this vial email with the store but had already ordered.
I'll have to see if I can make it usable otherwise I'll send it back.
However, I decided to try to make a pvc sheath for my machete just in case it takes a while to get a proper one. The hardware stores were closed already when I decided to try this so I found an old vacuum hose extension and used that.
I fired up an old gas bbq, put some aluminum foil inside, set the tube on the foil, and closed the lid. The foil did a great job of just allowing the plastic to get soft while not burning. A few minutes later I took the plastic out, set it on the cement, placed a board over it to flatten it, and while it was still soft I worked the machete in to form fit it. Here is what I got.
Then I wrapped it in some gorilla tape (though I ran out towards the bottom). I'll finish taping it tomorrow. Perhaps wrap it in leather or canvas or something. I'll also set it up with some sort of attachments as well. Shouldnt' be too hard. But it fits great is prety much bomb proof.
Only took about 20 minutes. I know she isn't purdy but she's very functional, durable, and (best of all) cheap.
