Not sure why, but I am just in love with stonewashed blades. I am never interested in PVD coated blades. I am sure if I were in the military, or a spy, or otherwise involved with some kind of covert operations, I would want a blacked out knife. I am wondering however, how well does that black PVD coating actually hold up in hard use before it starts scratching off the knife? Your thoughts?

As previously stated, depends on the quality of the pvd. I only have a couple pvd blades, a sharp by design mini tempest that the pvd is still holding up great after 4 or 5 months.

Also have a CJRB pvd blade that started going to crap after only a couple weeks, ymmv..

But still, DLC for the win..

PVD is a process, DLC is a type . . . if I like the knife, I buy it. I don't let something as mundane as the finish sway me. It's not like I'm going to use the knife to the extent that I'll wear the finish.

Thanks for all the comments. I was in Hawaii for many years, living in the jungle. Constantly opening coconuts and digging out the meat with my knife. Always finding avocados on the side of the road and cutting them open. Also assorted other fruits commonly available. Considering that I was using my knife so often on food that I was eating, I just naturally swayed away from any kind of coating on the blade not knowing how stable it would be.

Cerakote--no
PVD--Maybe
DLC--yes

I gave one knife with PVD, it shows light signs of use. My ZT 0095BLK has shown nothing.

I wish however, that they would DLC/PVD clips too, because while the PVD blade shows minimal wear, but the clip shows much more.
