Practice What You Preach II is only a month away so here are a few details.
Location: The Hoffman Empire(my little spot on the earth)
10 miles South of Marion, NC and 10 miles North of Rutherfordton, NC on Hwy. 221.
Coming from the South you will cross the McDowell Co. line and go about 2.8 miles and turn left onto a dirt road (Pink surveyors tape will be put out). After .3 miles turn left and cross the creek. Follow signs.
Coming from the North you will drive South on Hwy.221. After you cross I-40 you will drive 6.1 miles and turn right onto a dirt road (same pink tape), go .3 miles and turn left and follow the signs.
Coming in on I-40 you will exit at Hwy. 221 (NOT 226) and turn South and follow directions above.
I'll be there EARLY Friday morning and ready for you.
As mentioned before, you can try whatever style of camping you like. Primitive to modern! The land is there along with a pond full of fish but that is it! We will have over 600 acres on this plot, but there is no electricity and only natural water. Facilities will be as we make it.
There will be several things I want to try and welcome any suggesstions on others. Bring whatever flashlights you will like to compare along with whatever knives you want to try out. (Yes, I will allow Moras) Camillus will send along their Becker line for testing and Jerry Hossom says he will have his new outdoor knives ready. I should be bringing some more including Tops Armageddon and one of Trace's custom gambits. If you are nice, I'll even let you try my "Tree Farm Knife" otherwise known as the Survival Knife made by the Jones Brothers.
Of course the "Hoffman/Hossom Harpoon" will be there.
Fishing should be great that time of year and I have my 35mm film can tackle box ready. Hopefully I should have a compass course set out by then for those who want to give it a try along with topo maps of the area.
For what it is worth, this land is right in the middle of one of the original gold fields of country and if you want to try panning, go for it.
Food and drinks are up to each person. Liquid refreshment are allowed in the evening after the playing is done but please within reason. I reserve the right to shoot trouble makers. Firearms are allowed but should be kept holstered unless in the practice area while I am there. This area is set aside far from camp.
You and a friend or family are all invited. I will assure you it will be good clean fun and I would even bring my wife if it wasn't for her idea of camping is a Holiday Inn.
