Just got a Fallkniven PXL today. I picked the maroon micarta handle this go round, after already having had a white ivory model. I had traded that one earlier and made the decision to get another one as soon as possible seeing how I really missed it after it was gone. Of course all the recent threads about the PXL really got my fires stoked for one also. Several observations; the edge on this knife is the sharpest I have received out of the box, sharper even than the BM 610 Rukus, which had held that spot until today. Fit and finish is great, as is the blade action, and lockup. Of course I've never seen a knife I couldn't "improve", and with that in mind, here they are. First thing I did was to disassemble and polish, which did not really require much on my part. Second thing I did was to give the liner a touch more bend, just to get the stiffness I like in my locks. Third thing I did was to replace the teflon washers with phospher-bronze washers. The teflon washers are .015" thick, and my p-b washers were .017" thick, and I was not sure if that would make any difference, but after reassembling, there were no problems as everything lined up as it should. The blade action is really slick. The last 1/8" of blade travel before closing really shows how well everything lines up and the precision of manufacturing. The blade just seems to be sucked into the closed position and you can see the liner snap over as the ball detent and blade hole are in perfect alignment. The pb washers I put in were polished and I used miltec as the lube. As slick as the action is out of the box, it seems to be even slicker now! The only other thing I did was to cover the pocket clip with my standard black 3M Stair Step tape that not only subdues the shine, but helps with drawing the knife out of my pocket. On another note, the first PXL I had had a serial number on the blade spine, somewhere in the 300 range I believe, but this PXL is unmarked on the blade spine. Was there a certain number that were serialized? I guess the absence of a serial number would indicate that this one has the properly heat treated pocket clip. I guess that wraps it up as the PXL has graced my pocket since it came. I did notice that it is lighter and smaller than what I usually carry, but man do I love that blade steel and how well it cuts!

I saw some discussion on this a few weeks back. The first run PXL's were numbered, subsequent runs are not. The quantity of first run PXL's was not confirmed but is believed to be 1000.

Very interesting about the pb washers. I would have guessed sacrificing a small amount of slickness in return for a bit of additional toughness. Good to hear it worked out so well.

Congrats.

I'm lovin mine. It just oozes quality. The 3g blade is screaming sharpe. The think handles feel fantastic.

Which do you like better now that you have had both? I myself have the maroon, but I have never seen a white one in the flesh.

Dag, first of all it is thanks to YOU that I sit here $200 poorer than the other day!;):) Now, as to the statement on slickness; I tend to tighten the pivots on my folders a bit snugger than most folks, just like it that way and I have NO worries of the blade coming open in my pocket, and this can result in squeezing the softer teflon. The p-b washers, of course, don't deform, but usually result in a stiffer action until sufficiently worn in. The polishing I gave these really helped that break in period, course the miltec didn't hurt, as I was really surprised at how easy the blade opened, and this is after I had tightened it almost as tight as it would go! K12s, I like the maroon version better due to the light/dark stripping look. I guess the maroon micarta is linen micarta and this causes the variations, while the ivory is paper micarta, and that results in the flatter look.

Btw Dag, I really like the posts you have done comparing the PXL to the Merc, and the other posts you've made concerning the PXL. Good work!

I'm sorry.

Well, no, not really, as a Fallkoholic I hate to own alone :D

And thanks for the compliments on the previous posts

Either one should make you happy.:D I'd love to see some canvas micarta handles per my comment in the other active PXL thread!

I'd love to see a sage green micarta scale.

A green without any yellow in it, or I guess very little since blue and yellow make green (I think). It would compliment the stainless really well. A hunter green looks good with gold, but a pale sage type looks great with silver (stainless) bolsters.

The micarta lines would show up really well also.

No one probably knows what the hell I'm talking about, but it would look classy and expensive.

You're right, I don't quite follow exactly what shade of green you are describing, but I do agree that the right shade of green micarta would look awesome on this knife.

I am very interested in the washer replacement.

Where did you get the replacement pb washers, what size did you use (innner/outer diammeter, thickness?

Please let me know.
