Pyramite?

I just bought an imperial stockman, because it had just exactly the ideal size and blade shape, in my opinion. I will post pics when it arrives. The seller claimed the knife to be pre-wwII, and included the word "pyramite." I am guessing that is the handle material, and it looks a bit like celluloid from the pictures. Has any one out their heard of pyramite before? I tried Google to no avail.

I have seen a reference online somewhere that pyra- or pyro- or some derivation of that as a prefix on the name is indeed celluloid. When you get the knife check to see if the handles are noticably shrinking or see any pitting/corrosion near the handle material. If so thats an indicater its started to outgas nitric acid and it WILL RUIN the knife. Get the celluloid off that knife immediately if its outgassing.

Pye-Rem-ite (sp?) was Remington's name for celluloid.
Imperial used similar material with a different name.

I Could be wrong but I have always thought that this was Pyremite.

Best regards

Robin

In the pics their was no visible sign of shrinkage or warping. I would not know how to go about replacing the scales on this knife. I sure hope it's not necessary. Although it would be awesome with rams horn scales, or even stag...hmm. I wonder how expensive it would be too have this done. Any recommendations?
