q about small electric motors

Have a new small hair clipper (Wahl Mini Pro)

..and when it's running, the sound (frequency?) varies somewhat, even when there is no contact with the skin. Is this normal?

My guess would be it needs lubrication somewhere.

Mine does the same, irrespective of whether there's WD40 on the moving surfaces or not.

Try the lube then. I have taken my cheapo Wahl (batteries) apart many times. Should be two phillips screws on the bottom. Careful cause' there is a spring. I bought it for like twenty bucks about 8 years ago. Still works like a champ. Either that or take it back and get a new one.
