Hi...
hope this is in the right area....

I'm just a fan of knives, don't really have a clue how to accomplish this, so I thought I'd ask the knifemakers here...

The new Benchmade 440 "Opportunist" is apparently made without a clip.

I was wondering how dificult it would be to add a clip to this knife?

If I were wanting to contract someone to make this modification for me, how would I find an appropriate knife maker?

thanks!

Bill

I am not the most experienced knifemaker (you can say novice) and I am totally vacuous on folder making.
For a pocket clip on the folder, it has to be disassembled and the aluminium scales has to be drilled as far as I know. It would be wise to give it to a knifemaker particularly master on folder making. If i were in your shoes, I prefer not to dismount the folder but make a sheath that has a clip...

Best wishes

It's easy...as long as you have a drill press, the right drill bits, and the right screws and tap. But even then it can be tricky. :D

Actually I have done it before. The basic procedure is to take the knife apart and then decide where you want the clip to be. Make sure that it won't be going through anything important such as lock mechanisms. Then just place the clip onto the scale, center punch for the holes and drill them out with the appropriate bit. Tap the holes, get some screws and you are good to go.
