James, I have a Chinook and reprofiled the edge on my Edgepro (I had difficulty touching up the edge on my Sharpmaker due to the fact that the profiles on the different sides were not the same) and found that it was quite easy (I did not time the process but would guess it took me about half an hour to reprofile the edge to 20 degrees on each side)and got the blade extremely sharp.
The tip seems to me to be stout and much more so than on the Mil and Starmate.
I used it to cut meat and found that it is a good cutter (even before I reprofiled the edge).
Regarding the lock, I read a post from Nemo who said that Fred Perrin "is using it (Chinook) as a Fixed blade" by throwing etc. and I guess we will get another excellent review from Fred in due course. This is a lock I will trust - I find it to be very solid and unmovable (but didnt do any torque tests or stuff like that).
