Q. Industries - Pewter GloSkulz - INFO NEEDED!

Well, most people use them for lanyards. Just a cool alternative to other pewter skulls.

Hi SpyderJon-

Well, I can't exactly say that I've needed an alternative to other skulls! I suppose I would have to see one in use to better understand them.

there are other pewter skulls? :o Lanyards are those things you hang keys on right? Also those ones I showed you are $50 each O_O no cheap. But they are sweet!

Well, They're $50 each because they have Tritium vials installed in the eye sockets. Tritium is expensive, and getting the vials imported into this country is extremely time-consuming because they have to pass through the approval of a federal agency (NRC?) due to their slightly radioactive nature. The particular federal agency has a prohibition on importing Tritium for what it considers to be novelty purposes (which is why glo-rings are so hard to get and don't have a U.S. distributor).

There are a few places to get pewter/silver/brass/copper skulls. I can give you the addy if you're interested.

As far as being an alternative, they glow all the time so some people feel they can better see their knives/lights/etc. in the dark with these skulls. Hope this helps.

Yes!! this helps a lot! If you could give me the address that would be great. I live on the UK though so will that be a problem? Thanks again!

i have one of them i love it
but you would have to decide for yourself if its worth 50 bucks.
EDC knives is great company

Yeah, but the glowrings are not the same as the tritium vials in these skulls. It costs Dwaine more to import these than glowrings- which by the way it is illegal for a business to import glowrings into the United States as they are conrolled by the NRC and the NRC has determined that they are a novelty and so are not on the list of approved items for importation. Doing it the LEGAL way is more expensive. I also believe the skulls are a special casting but I'm not sure. I didn't say I'D pay $50 for them- because as nice as they are I have a lot of other uses for $50 besides this item- however there is a reason why they're so expensive.

How so? Both glow ring and the skull contain tritium. Just by size/volume (although it's hard to judge from the pics) I'd say that glowrings contain much more tritium than the skull.

It has to do with the product type. Each product has to be submitted for NRC approval. It took something like 2 years for TAD Gear to get approval to import their thumbstuds with Tritium capsules in them because they had to prove to the NRC that they were an actually realistic use and not a novelty. The capsules that the skulls use can be used in sighting on guns, and in watches. Those uses are considered something that is useful, and therefore you're able to import the capsules for that purpose. The glowrings are looked at as a novelty keyring, and thus the NRC refuses to give permission for their legal importation because they don't fill a specific need. I really wish I was making this up, but I'm not.

I think you guys are missing the boat on the cost thing. I think it because they are using tritium night sites from pistols. Those can't be $10.

Not glowrings.

Now if that was Ti ring like that I would plunk down some serious cash. :)

yes.. im from the UK and theres no problem getting these types of items with tritium, how great ;P
