Got my new knife. It's a newer model with the Idaho logo. It seems to be really hard to unlock and it locks 50-60%. This seems to be different than the first knife I purchased just after they came out. That one locked early and unlocked really easy. I don't have a tool yet, so I haven't adjusted the pivot or had it apart yet.

Any thoughts.

What do you mean "hard to unlock?" Stiff lockbar? Sticking?

CRK's lockbars have more tension then any other framelock I've used. I view this as a good thing. :)

Very stiff lock bar. It needs a great deal of force to move it. Not sticking.

Can always send it to me for inspection! :D

I don't view that as a problem, though you might want to check the clip as that can influence the stiffness if it has been adjusted after purchase.

I do not want this construed as a bash against CRK - but I bought a brand new Umnumzaan over the summer from a local CRK distributor. It was a little tough to open, and after closer inspection I noticed that one washer was missing. The titanium scale was rubbing against the blade, and the pivot was tight. You really had to inspect the knife to see the missing washer.

I quickly contacted Heather at CRK customer service - she wanted me to send it back. They added the missing washer and re-lubed the knife and it is as smooth as butter.

Heather noted that this rarely happens - worth ruling out.

As always - CRK customer service was great. They had the knife repaired and back to me in a few working days.

Thats why I keep buying from them.

There is a learing curve with opening the umnum. Mine really did a number on my thumb until I got the hang of it. Great knife though. It has a lot of great features.

I recently sent a 2008 Zaan in for some warranty work and when it came back the reset tension on the lockbar was stiff. After about a week either my thumb had gotten used to is or it wasn't quite as stiff...either way it is much easier to open now. Give it some time...

My Wilson Combat 'zaan from September came with th 'Idaho Made' opposite the 'CR' logo on the lockbar side. It unlocks easily enough one-handed, but mine lost it's clip immediately upon arrival here, so that may have enfluenced it's operation. Definitely a lot more pressure is required to unlock my 'zaan than my BM 755 MPR, for example. That 'zaan is my most perfect knife!

Here is my 'zaan - with the 'Idaho Made' - and my Buck 172 Mayo TNT for scale:

I have seen the startac 'zaan with the Idaho stamp, but I haven't seen a regular 'zaan, I wondered if it was different.

I found a picture of the new Idaho Made stamp on the Umnumzaan.

Looks like in addition to the stamp they decided to mill a relief cut on the lock bar so the lug is more accessible with the off hand.

That doesn't bother me in the least given the style of the knife.

The stamp looks better on the umnumzaan. The one on my Sebenza is upside down.
