I was wondering how strong the new hollow-ground 550 Griptilian is. I'm certain it's an awesome cutter; all my Grips (including 2 original 550 knives) are great cutters. I prefer the round hole over the oval, and want to try a HG BM knife.

Thanks for any comments.

Strong? It's pretty strong for what it is, considering the upper part of the blade is just as thick as the 556 and 551. The hollow grind is extreme, but I don't think it takes away enough material from the blade to make it weak in any way.

154 CM is good stuff. I though the HG mini grip would be a "delicate" or "lightweight" cutter before I handled one too. It's really not--it's just a razor-sharp Griptilian!

I've nought a couple 555HGs (the mini) as gifts, and was INCREDIBLY impressed with the grind. Most of BM's grinds that I've seen have been waaaay too thick for my taste, but they have all been flat grinds. I did handle a few 940s in a shop the other day, and the flat grinds were thin enough to be acceptable for me. The hollow grinds of the two examples I have seen are the epitome of what a hollow grind is all about. I would buy a 550HG without even thinking about it. I've had excellent wervice with www.knifeworks.com

Thanks a lot for the comments, guys.
Looks like I'll be saving up for a new 550HG!
