Q. Satin Battle Mistress SH

Guys,

I have a satin finished Battle Mistress w/ straight handle that has a blade thickness 0.25" at the spine. Does the blade thickness give any clues to when the knife was made, and does it give any clues regarding what steel was used? Any hints are appreciated, thanks.

Yes, the good friend I bought it from said it was wrapped at the factory. Thanks for the help.

Steel thickness doesn't give a clue, but the micarta and fasteners do. I'm with chuck, those years sound about right.
 
The handle gives it away, eh? Here is a close up of the handle, thanks.

FWIW all BM's were made of INFI. I suppose I will agree with 1WB's and DN regarding the dates as well ;):D:D

Thats all I've ever heard too, but something makes me wonder....


The original Battle Mistress was Jerry's first knife made out of INFI. Now before testing of INFI with that design could happen a design would first have to of been made. Being Jerry, would you waste possibly twenty or thirty blanks of INFI just to come up with a good design for testing, or would you cut them in A2 as to not waste anymore INFI than was needed? Going down that road would make you think there were atleast one or two A2 Battle Mistress design prototypes made. They wouldn't have been destroyed in testing since INFI was going to be the production material which would make them still out there.

Aside from the clip job I would say it looks like a good start toward the BM;)
