Q: Schrade tang stamp

did Schrade ever sell factory seconds? if not, I'm assuming that they probably left the company via the employees...
 
My understanding that they were sold at the factory store and, yes, many were bought by employees. You also need to remember that every Duke's mixture under the sun got sold at the factory closing auction.

Hundreds of these knives would show up at the Maybrook flea market near Ellenville during the late 70's and 80's. Folding knives ran between 1 and 2 dollars and fixed blades were 3 to 5 dollars. Not all were factory seconds, lots of "Lunch Pail" knives were available. I bought enough of them to last me a lifetime, at least I thought so, I only have a couple of those knives left. The white ones with the etching on the sides weren't big sellers, too hard to keep clean. I wish I had gotten a few more of the fancy ones and stashed them.

Wow that brings back some memories; stop at the Maybrook diner for breakfast and then head for the flea market. Of course I was too young to appreciate any of the knives they were selling then, I was more interested in Jack Daniels shirts and Lynyrd Skynyrd bandanas- what an idiot...now all that's left is the diner.

How far is that place from Utica? That's where I was born. Eric, I think you and I might be around the same age as I grew up on both Jack and Skynyrd myself. Thanks for evoking those memories.
 
I think it's about three hours from Utica. Just head right down the Thruway to the New Paltz exit and head west on Rt52, you'll run right into Ellenville, and also bypass Walden.
As far as age, I just turned a big 44 years old. Did anyone here notice that time accelerates as you get older. At least we have Gentleman Jack now to match our older vintage :)
