I've been a fan of Emerson's production knives for a long time, but some of the newer versions I've handled or owned seem to lacking in the quality/workmanship department. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, just how I feel. Has anyone else noticed a marked drop in Q/C?

Occasional issues of QC can happen to any company. What sets Emerson apart from some, is their willingness to stand by their products and make it right.

Not my same experiences but maybe you can help us by showing us some specific pictures to prove your points?

I got a 2012 Commander last week and so far its been great. But I guess theres a bad apple every once in a while.

just got my first emerson today, a cqc-7 (2012), and other than being a bit stiff (its a new knife, i get it), it is amazing, lockup is fort knox, super sharp out of box

Every 2011-2012 Emerson I have received has been perfect.

I'd agree with this, I bought quite a few NIB from the store Emersons and the blades were centered, grinds perfect, lock up solid, and the scales/liners were all flush.

i've had issues with several '09 and '10 models. My last Emerson was one of the Mini A100's a 2011 (I've had 3) and the handles are out of alignment. Warranty will cover them of course. At least they all came sharp unlike some of the recent models I've recieved from Benchmade.

What initially led me to try Emerson's was their reputation for incredible out of the box sharpness. Has anyone EVER posted an issue with an Emerson here due to lack of sharpness?

Frankly I'm not impressed with the quality of Emerson. I have three, each has been a bit disappointing. Nothing worth sending the knife back for, but all three give the sense of being crude. The Benchmades and Bucks I own have had better fit & finish. The edges on my Emersons have all needed sharpening. The grinds are all uneven.

I really like my A100 and Commander, but my overall impression is that Emerson's are second-rate knives. I don't mean to be offensive, just being frank (and maybe a bit tactless). I'll keep my A100, but I'm thinking of doing a giveaway of my Mini-CQC-15. I wouldn't care if I lost my Commander really either; I carry it when I don't want to worry if I lose my knife, e.g. mountain biking or motorcycle trips.

Personally for me the one thing that has been best about my Emerson knives has been the even grinds. You do know that the three knives you own have V groud bevels with a chisel edge which would seem like an uneven edge if you were expecting a traditional double ground edge right?

All 15 of mine have perfect grinds. Never seen one with an uneven grind......

Yes. V primary with asymmetrical secondary (Not a true chisel secondary). Got it. And the grinds are still not matched. They are all useable and work just fine. However, after three mediocre knives, I'm not likely to buy another Emerson. In my experience, they are functional and sturdy, but not made to a standard I'd like. None of the three were sharp out of the box. Emerson's fall into the "good enough" category for me. Nothing wrong with that, I can sharpen a knife. Like I said, I'll keep my A100, thank you very much, but I'm not going to BS anyone about how great it is.

I also noticed this on youtube.

Yes, I have seen/heard a spike of this in recent months. (This also includes feedback from some friends of mine who are big Emerson fans, and a Dealer that I know) It may or may not coincide with hiring/training new help at his new facility. Not sure. The ones I have owned have been pretty decent overall. The one issue that I have had with approx. half the Emersons I have owned is a gritty blade action. I've had to break them down and clean them out. I can overlook that, but for some who are not fanboys would probably find that unacceptable. I am a bit of a fanboy but also intellectually honest and can understand how some would feel.
