Quality 4 in hand

FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades sells one at his shop. Looks good to me, though I don’t have one (yet!). Maybe he can comment on the on Baryonyx Knife Co. carries?

I looked into those but he's out of stock until late January
well that's too bad! That was on my Christmas list!
I have a set of Narex rasps that I'm very happy with; they make them in coarse and fine. If you truly need a four-in-hand, it's not that, but they do a great job on the cheap.

Edit: A Aerosmith101 I have a few Nicholson files which I love. A quick google search found that they make a four-in-hand. I'd get this one:
Nicholson Half-Round 4-in-Hand Rasp and File, Rasp Cut, American Pattern, 8" Length

If in a pinch, grab a new Nicholson from a big box hardware store. I know that they are Mexican now, but a wood file should be just fine.

The new Nicholsons are TRASH and have been for years now. New in package you can see the teeth all mashed and folded over on them. Horribly misshapen things. :(

Boy, that's terrible news...
So...
When are you getting more of those 4-in-hands in, Benjamin? :D:D:D

Get a Shinto rasp, best thing I’ve come across for shaping wood
Yeah, I’ve heard great things about Shinto rasps, but I’m not sure it addresses all the functions of a 4-in-hand with a half round.

I see one can get good vintage ones for like $40 a piece

Out of newbie curiosity, how does a manticore file compare to an old (good) Nicholson 4-n-hand?

The Manticore is an abrasive file and the ribbing structure on it is to reduce surface contact to accordingly increase pressure on the work surface for faster cutting, not to function as "teeth". It would be utterly useless on wood, as it's intended for metal.

They've served me well.
Not the greatest ever I'm sure, but available and decent quality.
Certainly well cut and not bent or crooked...ect
