Wondering if any of you fellas knew which brand (genuine of course, no hong kong knockoffs) has a better quality? I need a bali for general use, needs to be rugged, but not so good quality that I want to keep it in a display case, so which would you reccomend, Bear or Jaguar?

Neither bear nor jaguar are exactly display case material.

It just depends on what you want. Bear make a find balisong except that the handles will eventually break unrepairably. But, you get a lot of wear before that fate sets in.

Jags have terrible pins that will break minutes of of the box. Once replaced, you can bang a long time.

My Jag pin broke and I thought it was all over, where can I get these replacement pins that wont break???
Thanks.......

I'm very happy with the Jag I recently bought. The pins are on their way out, but I'm not to worried, as replacing them under Clay's meathod seems simple enough. I have also found them at almost half the cost of Bears (email me with specifics- hint, your almost there). I checked out the Jags with the black insets, and, as reported by everyone else, they seem weak. Go with the solid skeletonised handles. Hope that helps.

the jags have questionable pins.. the ears have questionable handles. I dunno what you mean by hong kong knock off as Jags are made in taiwan.

if you have time do drop by my page: a whole essay on it:

Well thanks for the input guys, I guess I'll go with the Jag then, buy the pins ahead of time, replace em before they even have a chance to go out.

And sniper, what I meant was...
My friend bought a cheap bali at a knife show, but he doesn't know much about knives. The design matched the Jag's exactly, except for the line running down the handles from a cheap mold. He showed it to me, said it was a Jag and he payed 20 bucks for it. I flipped the knife open, looked for the "Jaguar" stamp on the blade, and guess what I saw? Probably one of the most hated words in the knife buisness :

"Rostfrei"

Thanks again for the input.

Yeah, rostfries are by far the lowest quality balisongs. My friend's rostfrie came with two lazy handles.

Now don't tell me anythings worse than that.
