My second question for today, lol. What quality CBN emulsions do you guys have good luck with. My feeble search attempt has yielded Gunny Juice and Ken Schwartz. Are these the way to go? Thank you all in advance.

I don't have a very high opinion of CBN for stropping. I have had no good results with Ken Schwartz and Bark River CBN. I have tried .5u, 0.75u, 1.0u, and 16.0u on leather, wood and MDF in widely varying amounts from a tiny drop for a whole strop to an exorbitant amount squirted all over the surface. I find the results to be strange and unimpressive. I suspect it has something to do with the far more circular-ish shape of CBN grains versus the far sharper angles of diamond abrasive, but I don't actually know for sure where the problem comes from. Given my personal experience, I recommend diamond compound by miles. Norton, DMT, and even various Amazon brands have given me absolute exceptional results by comparison

Not sure why your set on CBN emulsions, but one of the members here, Northwest_knife_guy sells emulsions, diamond. he's over in the knifemaker's market area under gadgets and gear. I've got both the 1micron and .5 micron and they work fantastic !

Thanks guys for the input. I am not at all set on CBN. I had just read, believe on this forum, they were superior to other materials on a strop. I was low on what I normally use which is the dmt diamond paste and was going to give cbn a try. I've had good luck with the diamonds in paste form so perhaps I will just stick with that.

I tested a variety of sub-micron diamond and CBN and could find no difference in their effect.
There may be differences at high pressures and temperatures, but not on a strop as far as I can tell.
