Quality Chinese Bowies?!? What are these?

Anyone have any experience with these? There seem to be at least three variations. The stated specs are impressive enough. Thick, heavy blades. Prices are OK, shipping is pricey. It would be neat if these were the real thing.

These look like part of the Kanetsune line of traditional Japanese hunting knives (a huge number of variations).

They are Japanese (Seki) made.

15 Layer Damascus Blue Steel.

I like them aesthetically, but have not used the one I have, so can't comment on the toughness.

I have this one:

Quality Chinese bowies? I believe these are the EDC items of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and Mothman...

The bottom two are Kanetsune knives. I'm not sure who makes the top one. Kanetsune are excellent knives and are Japanese, not Chinese.

Quality from any country is dictated by how much cash the importer is willing to throw at his makers.

Just so you know. The guy selling these is known to deal in knockoffs. The "Tom Braun" Tracker and Scout come to mind. These may be a Chinese copy of the Japanese knives. Caveat Emptor.

A Chinese site that sells the "Tom Braun" knives, as well as exact copies of many other knives (logos and all), has these listed. That's a pretty big warning sign. If the mods think I should, I'll post a link, otherwise I won't.

Considering the prices, and more obviously the lack of name dropping, I wouldn't assume these were Kanetsune knives. Additionally, they ship from China.

However, none of that precludes them from being good users, which was my concern.

I sounds as if you purchased one or more... if you did buy one what has your experience been?

Thanks...

I haven't purchased any. A guy on outdoors-magazine.com's forum had some reasonably positive words about them a while back, and I came across an auction for one recently.

I was just curious about their quality and origins.
