I want to buy a chris reeves nkonka but just saw a video on knife tests.com and they totally trashed the green beret in their test.

Does anyone have any comments regarding the review and experience with the knife?

Thanks

You're first topic ever is on an extremely controversial knife test.

My thoughts? Sure. Don't pry with knives. Don't pound them through concrete. You could make a case that even batoning is abuse.

If you go into the purchase looking for a knife to abuse you're going about it wrong.

Thanks! I would like to know if you own a reeves and what your experience has been? Uses, etc..

Buy it you won't be dissapointed. :)

Imo those tests don't exhibit any real value to me except for making me laugh. :p

90% of the things that guy does to his knives is just pure F@##$, because in the real world no one would need to do many of these things.

I can guarantee that a knife will break if you hit it against concrete. Don't hit it against concrete and it will be fine.

For what it's worth, the nkonka is made from A2 steel while the GB is S30V.

Even if the test were considered valid, it does not apply to the nkife that you want to buy.

OH yeah........Don't bash it against concrete :D

Hi Dmorris,

The "tests" conducted by noss4 and his ilk are the subject of much contention and usually inspire (how can I delicately phrase this?) rather spirited discussion :D by both their proponents and detractors. Even when a question such as yours is asked in all innocence, the threads are pretty much looked upon as a big ole can of worms being opened since they tend to degenerate rather quickly.

Have a look through these (if you dare...:D) to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. ;)

Dmorris. If you like the knife buy it! The fixed blade line is being discontinued. Won't affect your warranty but it is worth buying those that are still out there regardless of tests.

The Nkonka is an excellent knife.

CRK makes no bad knives.

Don’t be fooled by the guy in the hockey mask.

Dmorris,

Any knife can be abused and broken. Haven't seen the review, but have and still own many CRK knives. They are great cutting tools, and as such, are extremely durable.

the "tests" should be viewed purely as entertainment.

if you overload a firearm cartridge, your gun will blow up. not because the gun was faulty, but because you used it improperly.

his intent is to break knives, some break sooner than others. that should not necessarily be a reflection on the overall quality of the knife.

ive owned many crk's, a2 one piece models, a green beret, and a warrior. great knives that will serve you well.

I have the spearpoint Knonka and it an awsome knife. My feelings on Noss have been well stated and if your a fan of Chris Reeve Knives, you probably feel the same way !!! Any knife or anything for that matter can break or be severely damaged if abused and used in a manner it was not designed for. A knife is made for cutting, bigger ones for chopping. Not for chopping steel angle, being pounded through cement, etc. CRK has the BEST customer service in the world. I had an issue with a knife and Chris called me himself and spoke to me aprox 1/2 hour about the knife, why it failed and what he was going to do about it. I have 20+ CRK and will Always support them because of their Quality & Customer Service. Enjoy your knives !!!

The Chris Reeve Knives are vulnerable to abuse like every knife is. Compared to other reputable (and highly dependable) knives like Randall, SOG, and Ka-Bar, the one-piece line is pretty much indestructible, at least for all practical purposes.
The destruction test proves little - a Jeep is one of the toughest, hardest-to-kill cars out there, but you'll still destroy it if you run over it with a tank. Just because someone can destroy a knife doesn't make it weak, especially if destroying it is their objective.

My advice is to not take Noss's tests too seriously.
