Hey All! Im new to this forum and i am looking to purchase a new e.d.c. knife... It gets way too confusing after looking at all the options and trying to decide on which one to get, therefor i am going to ask for your recommendations...
What im looking for:
-U.S.A. Made or Quality Made
-Around 30-80 Dollars
-Fixed or Folding
-Has A lock mechanism (folding)
-Good corrosion resistance + Good edge retention
-FRN handle/ non-steel handle

I will be using this knife for basic everday cutting tasks, such as opening boxes, cutting rope, carving, cutting veggies/fruit...I wont be using it for anything too extreme... I currently have a Benchmade Mini Grip, and a CRKT M16-13Z.... If anyone could give me some reccomendations that wouldbe greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance....

Maybe take a look at a few Spyderco offerings. The Japanese made Delica/Endura or Centofante 3 are excellent EDC knives. If you prefer US made folders, check out a Manix or Native 1...

Buck and Kershaw also make decent knives within your budget.

Good luck! :)

It's about $20 out of your range, but it's a very nice knife, how about the Paramilitary 2? The Spyderco Tenacious and Persistence are nice knives too, for the price, but not USA-made.

Spyderco Native with FRN handles or Buck Vantage would fit the bill. You could also squeeze in a Kershaw Speedform 2 from Kershawguy and get Elmax.

Ahola from the Kershaw Skyline!

(^ the middle knife;normal ones are black G-10 with a 14C28N blade, usually around $35 give or take $5)

Yea, ive been looking at the Spyderco Ambitious/ Tenacious also, not quite sure on the quality of the steel... And also been looking at the Ontario and ESEE Knives... Theres so many different brands and models it gets so damn hard... Like i want a Small-Medium knife, but at the same time i want a larger knife... I really like the Endura/Delica also, ive had one before and it had a little too much blade play..... Thanks for the recommendations, keep em coming!!! Hope to make a decision within a few days, just trying to weigh out the pros and cons of each one...

If you are considering a fixed blade strongly, just make sure you know how you want to carry it ahead of time and you will be comfortable doing that each day.

The big kid or Rambo inside you might tell you get something that later for convenience sake just stays home. Whole bunch of knives and guns become house toys after the owners realize small, convenient suited their lifestyle better.

I think most of those lockbacks will have some play, just based on the design of the knife's lock.

When i had the Endura4 it didnt have much up-down play, but mostly side to side... Since it is such a long blade with the size handle and pivot screw it has, do Any of you think that the pivot screw would be a problem for some tasks? Like i feel like the screw is just cheap and if there were to be a good amount of pressure on either side of the blade either the screw or handle would snap/bend... For instance if i were to pry something (which i wouldnt do), Do you think anything would fail??? Im Looking at the Endura4 Right Now, and also thinking about the Delica4. Im pretty sure the Delica is roughly the same length as the B.M. Mini-Grip... So im leaning towards the Endura more, im just worried about the strength of this knife... Thank You!!

I Really like the Manix2 too, just the price.... Love the fact that it is made in the U.S. ... I think within a few months maybe i will look more into buying the Manix.... I also am planning on getting a fixed blade Ontario Ranger, or an ESEE.... Possibly a Ka-Bar With the leather wrapped handle...

Try out the spyderco manix 2 blue translucent light weight

I had a G10 Endura 4, but I never noticed any issues with the pivot. I wouldn't sweat it. Does yours seem different from others on the internet? If so maybe make a thread with pictures.

ESEE Izula for your price point. I EDC my ESEE 3 which I can not say enough good things about to me its the perfect EDC fixed blade.

Spyderco Pacific Salt. 100% rust proof H1 steel. FRN handle. <$70.

I love mine. You don't have to worry about it...its a great EDC knife. In my top 3 favorite but I use it more than any other knife I own besides maybe my Ontario RAT 1.

Very good point! Carry/use is key.

Have you considered a Traditional style of knife as well?

Queen Cutlery make a very nice Teardrop liner lock with grippy bone handles. D2 steel so corrosion isn't much of a worry. with regard to the liner lock, this one is good as it has a slipjoint spring as well = safe lockup no play.

As for belt knife, a Puukko would be very useful in my experience. Why? light and strong, the bulbous handle gives safe controlled grip, the dangler sheath is very secure and yet you can sit down without the handle jabbing your ribs.
Whatever you decide on, I hope it pleases you.

Regards, Will

I'll second the Izula 2 for a FB and suggest you look at BM mini-Grips for folders. All are US made and should be within your budget.
