Hi, years ago when I've bought from US to my place several Benchmade knives I had mixed feeling about their quality. My first was Griptilian 551 and it came dull. Didn't cut paper at all. Another was HK 14205 that came with a big chip on a blade. And the third one the Sequel 707 that came defective and its issue I've understood only years after when I've learned a little bit of how to check knives.
(Watch the imgur link).

I've bought many knives directly from China too and none of them, even the cheapest didn't have such flaws.
So I've got rid of 551 a long ago. I've taken out a big portion of edge from 14205 to get rid of the chip. Still own this knife. I still have 707https://imgur.com/gallery/QYSGtUq too. It is in new (mint) condition.
I've found its problem myself when wanted to sell it. What should I do in my case ? I need to pay my money for shipping to Benchmade company so they'll fix their defective tool ? And what they could do with this kind of blade ? I need it in a brand new, untouched condition. 707 is a discounted model.
Anybody here wants to buy it from me like that ?
Anyway shame on Benchmade for bad quality control, for making defective knives and for shipping them to overseas customers knowing how difficult (expensive and time consuming, local VAT payment) will be implementing their service.

maybe it’s just that i’m on my phone & don’t have my reading glasses handy, but what’s wrong with the 707? i’m not seeing anything obvious in your pictures

My opinion is just that so take it with a grain of salt.

Looks like a pretty uneven grind to me. Unfortunately my experience is that Benchmade's tend to come that way fairly often. They are a mass produced knife and all the usual corners are cut. Personally I won't buy a Benchmade I can't put hands on first. Having said that I've owned a few that while QC was not ideal in one form or another they never failed me. Really though it's a work knife. Put an edge on it and use it. Grind is off and the secondary bevels may not be even but I've got a few knives that way and they get a little closer every time I sharpen them. My Benchmade claymore is the first one I've purchased that had darn near even bevels (19 degrees and 20 degrees).

Re-sharpening will fix that bevel, maybe that's what made it look that way in the first place. It's a little late to be complaining about manufacturing quality this long after you've gotten the knife IMO. It's been good enough for you for this long, now it's only an issue because you want to sell it?

Like the second poster, I don't see anything obvious that is off the spec. Maybe the OP can elaborate a bit?

I've bought this 707 as a brand new knife from a reputable US distributor for my collection. It was never used or sharpened. It was just sitting in a fur pocket of my knives bag for years before I wanted to sell it. A standard check of its bevel made me shocked. People paying (me too) so much for a piece of... when all chinese knives, originals and clones I have came to me with a perfect grind. At least much better than this "proudly made in.."
It should definitely be a guarantee case if Benchmade offer Lifetime warranty.
But:
1) I don't want to spend my hard earned money to send them back their manufacturing defect.
2) I am afraid that in their attempt to fix it they could ruin it at all.
Other manufacturers I believe would exchange the knife for a new one.

I could also make and show you a pic of uneven grind of Protech I have. It looks like it was made by drunk master.

Guy has 2 messages in 14 years, and both are here in a bm thread complaining about a non issue. 🙄

I have no idea what Benchmade ships overseas, but I have handled, tested, and/or bought over 50 Benchmade knives in the last few years, mostly from three local stores, but a few from Internet dealers. Only two have had any problems. An Mini Infidel was very dull near the heel of one edge (BESS 800). An assisted Boost was very difficult to open, but it did eventually break in. As a matter of personal taste, on a few knives, I have loosened the pivot screw 1/8th of a turn or less to get manual knives to drop closed.

As for sharpness out of the box or off the shelf, aside from the Mini Infidel, the average of 5 or more tests with an Edge-On-Up ranged from 79 grams for a Volli (literally razor sharp) to 290 grams for an Emissary 470-131 (good but not great).

On the other hand, and I do wish Benchmade would offer more colors and replace 154CM with a better steel.

If I recall correctly, Benchmade has not been producing knives in 154cm since about 2019, when S30v pretty much took over as their base model steel…

Even though they did lean on 154cm for longer than many other brands before transitioning to S30v, and S30v is still their base model steel offering, they do have plenty more than that available these days, to include models in S90V, 20CV, 3V, M4, CPMD2, CPMCruwear, etc. which is why I find it odd that you would say “I wish they’d replace 154cm with a better steel.”

Because they did… about four years ago.
