Just wondering what you guys use to protect your knives from rust? The Benchmade manual mentioned metal sealers, any idea what is the best one to use for quality knives?

What knife are you talking about specifically?

I was talking about a gold class 710 and a Strider smf... probably a Large Sebenza too. Also have some balisong knives with carbon steel like the arc angel I want to make sure I protect adequately.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I have been using Fluid Film on my CPM-M4 Gayle Bradley and there is not a hint of rust or discoloration. The stuff is food safe too.

i use renaissance wax, a micro-crystaline wax polish. the container says it can be used on furniture, leather, paintings, metals, marble, ivory etc.
i've used it on damascus and wood with great results.

I'm sold. Where to buy?

I'm also sold where can we get this magical product hehe ;)? Hmm amazon has it, but they wont ship to Canada... hate it when they do that! From what I have been reading its available at Canadian Tire.

How do you apply Fluid Film, from what I read it adds an extra coat on the blade, I'm guessing it would be wise to cover the edge part so it doesn't dull it by covering the edge ?

Well, in the States, you can always get it here. For the 'Canajan eh', good old Canadian Tire.

For application on blades, I just spray a bit on a cloth and rub it on the blade. When I am satisfied that it is well coated, I use a second cloth to wipe all but the thinnest layer off so dust is not attracted. I figure that if it is good enough to be used by the USN and NASA, it is good enough for me. ;)

Edit - DM, you can and should cover the edge so it will stay sharp. A carbon steel blade can actually become dull just sitting, due to edge corrosion.
