So I acquired this knife a while back, and I've been very pleased, overall. It keeps an edge, it has minimal blade play, and I love the unique design (and would like to know more about it). Here it is:

This blade has one con, but it is a big one. If you apply even pressure to the spine of the blade, the leaf spring slides across the tang and slips out of place, allowing the knife to close. I was doing some research to try to find out some method of remedying this, when I happened across this knife:

As you can see, they seem exactly the same. My question is this: what are the chances that my knife came from the same factory as the S&W? I can't even find a website for MTech, which tells me that MTech probably doesn't manufacture anything, at least not directly.

Quite often, store-brand raisin bran comes from the same place as name brand, yeah?

Really, I just want to know because it would be hilarious if a knife designed for Homeland Security has a flaw that could potentially cut off all your fingers. xD

Here's a closeup of the tang with the liner lock engaged, just in case there is a problem there that a knife expert could point out:

Thanks! ~Fake

PS: I've heard of 'whacking the spine', and I want no part of it. :D

OOPS. That would belong somewhere other than Traditional.

Let's see if we can find the right forum...

It's made by Taylor. They make low quality knives for many companies-S&W, Mtech, several others.

Not trying to be a smart-ass here, but the only way to remedy the problem you are having with the lock on that knife is to buy a higher quality knife.

A poorly executed liner-lock is a lost cause and a threat to your fingers.

Yup go higher quality, you will thank yourself in the end. You can pick up an Opinel for around $10, $20 will start putting you in the range of a lot of good budget folders. $30 will open your options greatly and your at a price point where if you want a particular style of knife you can find a good quality knife in your budget that suits your needs.

If you like that particular blade style off hand there is the Kershaw Needs Work that has a similar blade style.
