Has anyone bought a quality peace pipe hawk before? Does anyone know a good one that works well for chopping wood/smoking? Thanks

You can get a kit to assemble one at Track of the Wolf. I did that and it works pretty well, but you have to file and sand down an edge as it comes un-edged. Filing also has to be done to take off the rough edges left over from the wax castings. I took it camping with me not too long ago, works pretty well, but I definitely need to make a mouthpiece for it to help keep some of that ash from pulling in and giving me a heavy dose of carbon flavoring.

You can also try talking Steve Liley(Coal_Creek_Forge) into making one, that's what I'd like to do, since the man is brilliant with steel.

Steve at Coal Creek forge can fix you up, he's the man.

Best regards

Robin

One thing I can assure you, smoking in a steel bowl always tastes like s###.

Oh no he Can't-i don't fool with those #$@^ thing's anymore to much time invovled and not enough in return, last one i did for bear1889 took 3 piece's of my good curly maple to burn the hole thru, needless to say i was a tad beside myself

I haven't forged anything other than my dad's signature on a high school report card, but I imagine the time and exacting effort needed to make both a quality pipe and a quality hawk in a single unit would put the price beyond the reach of the common man.

You could try R.E. Davis Company I bought the Faceted Bowl Pipe Tomahawk head. They are cast, not forged and you can get 8620, 4140, 6150 steel or you can get it in brass. They are a little rough when you get them and they need to be cleaned up and sharpened. They have curly maple handles already drilled for smoking or you can just buy a whole kit that has the head, the handle, and an instruction manual on how to make it. It's an option for those who want to make their own, but don't have the tools.

That might be of some assistance with that issue. I could always turn that out and shape it, if such a thing would need to be done. I like that 22" pre-shaped/drilled one, but I'm curious if they left it thick enough at the bottom for my liking. I like the slight taper on the Cold Steel handles, it's just big enough to feel like it has some good heft and holds easy.

Yeah, I like the feel of the Cold Steel handles to. I just bought the Cold Steel pipe hawk. The pipe part is not hollowed out and the handle isn't drilled, so technically it's a hammer poll. But I love it!!!
