Quandry: Swamp Rat Ratweiler vs NMSFNO

Hey guys,

I'm debating (with myself...lol) whether I should sell my original Ratweiler to fund the purchase of an NMSFNO. Input from folks that have owned/used both would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an fyi, the Ratweiler was received from Eric Isaacson several years back, and is the demo blade that was used for the advertisement and promotional photographs. So there is a bit of historical value to it as well.

Thoughts?

A picture for reference. It's the black coated blade pictured in the top and bottom right chopping picture. It was not used for the cinder block or flexibility tests.

So your saying it's used? Well, I'll take it off yer hands, for a discount of course. It being used and all. I'll be real generous and pay original price for it.
 
Are you looking for a safe queen or a user? I am presuming the Ratweiler has never been used, but that you would get the NMSFNO to use. If so, that is what I would base my decision on-- user-->NMSFNO safe queen-->Ratweiler.

I've not used the RW since Eric sent it to me. Obviously, it was used for the chop testing in the picture. ;)

I've kept the RW tucked away until now, but I'd like a user so....

In all honesty Netshock, why not use the Ratweiler? Sentimentality? If so, get Eric to back up what you say and sell it. I would think it would command a premium.
If I hadn't just bought a FBM, I'd be all over that thing. My favorite knife. Period.
 
@762 Yeah, I've been saving it. Eric indicated he would verify details if asked. If I could get an FBM or FFBM for the price of the NMSFNO I'd be all over that instead...lol Trade?

Yeah, I don't really want to sell it at all, but I've had my eye on the nmsfno for a couple months and they'll be gone soon too.
 
Dude, don't sell the Rat, it's one of the all time best blades; just sell something else to fund the NMSFNO.
 
Jeep, that modded RW is badass!

The Ranger is definitely on the block...I like it, but I'd like an FBM even more. :) As an aside, what's the going rate on a user FBM?
 
Seriously, why sell one?
Just buy the NMSFNO and NO REGRETS.

You'll regret selling the RW, no matter how much you like the NMSFNO.
 
I'd try to hang onto the RW if I were you.

They're really one of the sweetest designs for an all-arounder to come out of Wauson...

If you are patient, and scour the Exchange here, as well as eBay, continously, you might get one for $400 or a little more. It's a buyers market lately for the more common models.
 
I'd hang onto the RW. It's a classic blade shape and size.

I had a RW that was one of the subsequent runs. The scales were flatter and not quite as thick. It never felt as good as my Rat Mastiff and Rat Daddy in hand, and I never really took a liking to it. I eventually sold it.

However, I found one of the earlier models (like yours) with the nice looking, more contoured scales and grabbed it. This one is not going anywhere. It's become one of my favorite all-around carries.

Keep the Ratwieler , I have 3 of them 1 I use and two new ones just incase something happens to my user.
From the store they were $178 now they cost $250+ and they are getting harder to find.
 
Keep the Weiler, sell something else to raise the money for the SFNO, they are both worth having and both awesome but the original weiler is in a class by itself and may very well be the last blade I ever part with

Hey fellas,

Apologies for the delayed response...work caught up to me.

Anyway, I've come to my senses and decided against selling the RW. Instead, I convinced myself to pick up a user FFBM from a fellow Canuck forumite.

I'll post more pictures once I take receipt of that big bastid.
