I am driving to South Dakota early tomorrow morning for my annual antelope hunt. This year, my dad has an elk tag. I am planning to use one of my SJTACs for dressing my antelope, but am bringing this along in case we need to quarter my dad's elk:

That should make the job fun and easy.

Good luck on the hunt and be safe in you travels.

We will most definitely need lots of pictures of both in action. Using a FBMLE to quarter an elk might just be the coolest use it will ever see, unless you happen to quarter a moose, or perhaps go elephant hunting.

Looking forward to pics, and good luck on the hunt.

An ax, chainsaw (oil emptied out) or a bone saw make field dressing big game like moose and elk at lot easier. Hope you get to try out your FBMLE tho' -- take lots of pix.

I've used a CGFBM to quarter a feral hog... works very well! :)

Good hunting!

John

I quartered a large cow elk with a 4" folder a couple years ago (it was even a Buck :o). A FBMLE would have made the job a lot easier though.

Good luck with your hunts Lunde!

As always, I look forward to your return with story and pics. Happy Hunting my friend.

Going to CO here in 2 weeks after Elk and Mulies.

I wish your father and you great luck. They are fun to hunt:thumbup: please take some pics if you remember:D

My experience is not legion, but bigger is not necessarily better when quaterting game, even large game like elk. A game warden or active duty is more than sufficient. Of course, I've never felt the need to chop though bone. I just use a saw. Personally, the biggest knife I would use for dressing game is a SAR5.
