I'm interested in those, but I see that they are bead-blasted. Are they prone to rusting?

They claim to use CPM154, which should be pretty corrosion resistant, but any bead blasted steel is more susceptible to rusting due to all the nooks and crannies left by the blasting medium.

You mean the crappy Mantis knives, made under a different name, with absurdly inflated prices? Stay away.

As for beadblasting, yes the risk of rust is greater. Beadblasting basically covers the surface in tiny little pits. This gives it an even, dull finish, which some may like, but the tiny pits act like anchors for moisture to cling to, and if not taken care of, will rust much quicker than a polished or satin/machine/stonewashed finish will given the same steel. The surface might seem smooth, but microscopically, it's mountain range.

Okay, thanks guys. On this account do you guys have any knife recommendations? I like beefy folders

Gotta narrow it down some. Start with your price limit. Then, how long do you want the blade to be? Are you just looking for a knife with a solid lock, or are you looking for a folding prybar? Is there something you're not looking for (ie: tanto blades)? Do you have a preference in handle materials?

I know that Mantis makes GT knives. I'm not so sure that Quartermaster knives is one of their concerns.

$250, folding prybar preferable... lol and that's about it.

Make sure you check local knife laws (NYC has pretty tight ones) but I think Zero Tolerance, commonly reffered to as ZT here on the forums, will most certainly suit your needs. Many have attested to their strength and durability, and their designs are quite excellent (Ken Onion, Strider, KAI). Be sure to look around to find one that suits your needs, and try to handle them if you can, because dropping $200 on something that is shcockingly different than the online pictures leads you to believe isn't fun.

Belated Welcome,
Connor

There is some connection between Mantis and QM, but nobody knows just how far that connection goes. QM says that they were asked by Mantis to do a higher-end version of their Tough Tony, and they are obviously the same basic design. Their other 3 models thus far also bear some very Mantis-esque desing features, and they have stated that they were designed in conjunction with Jared. So far, that's all anyone knows. It's possible that QM is a wholey seperate entity that is just working in conjunction with Mantis at this early stage in their life, and that they may branch out and offer other products of different designs as time goes on. It's also possible that they are just Mantis rebranded, as Planterz suggested. There just isn't enough info out there at this point to make a determination one way or the other (imho).

Knifetten, if you like their offerings, then by all means buy what you want. I would suggest you search Mantis and Quartermaster here first, read up on them, and then make your decision. Some don't want anything to do with Mantis or QM (guilt by association, if you will), while others like them and like their products just fine (though few would admit it here, lol). You have to decide that for yourself, though. You are the one buying the knife, and you will be the one using and carrying it, so make you choice based upon your own tastes and priorities.
