Well, got this knife about a week ago, and I've been putting it through it's paces.

First impressions: Very nice, very tight fit on everything. The action was a little bit gritty, but a couple applications of oil and everything goes smoothly. The only thing that bugged me was that the backspring on the main blade was so strong, if you closed the blade with force, the edge would hit the spring and cause a small dull spot about 1/2 the way down the blade. The wood itself is very beautiful and the polish and grind of the blades is dead on, the polish on the Schrades I've handled doesn't compare. The knife was sharp out of the box, not sharp to my liking, but on par with most benchmades I've recieved.

Now, a week down the course...I reprofiled it recently. No idea why everyone is whining about D2 steel being hard to sharpen, mine took a razor edge with maybe 1.5 times the effort of Schrade's 420HC steel. They take and hold a good edge, and I've been cutting plenty of zip-ties with it lately :-d Very nice knife, and a great value too!

Also, I got it from www.cumberlandknifeworks.com. It was my first purchase with them, and, let's just say, it will not be the last! It was around 48$, with 4$ for shipping.

PS. for all you guys having issues sharpening the steel, try using a lansky coarse stone with a good deal of pressure...it'll put the edge right on. It won't be very sharp, but that's what the higher grits are for.

Glad that you're happy with it! I love my Queen Stockmans. It sounds like they are coming a little sharper from the factory than they used to, that's good.

I've never had a problem with D2 sharpening either, but I use an Edgepro. The main factor in time of sharpening is how much metal I need to remove (how thick the blade is), not which steel I'm working on. Once the edge is thin, they ALL sharpen up very fast by hand. I usually go to a DMT fine and ceramic (either Spyderco stone or ceramic rod).

I love the way that D2 holds it's edge, really is some amazing steel.

I've never had a problem with D2, either. My worst knife to sharpen was an 03 Remington Bullet, though. It has 440A blades, but the angle couldn't have started at less than about 70 inclusive. I've been working that one on and off for a few months, and I just have started to work the spey to my liking. It's well made, but the factory edge sucks.
