I've had many Queens over the past few years and have enjoyed them all.

I don't mind the edges as I sharpen every knife I get to my liking.

Anyhow, recently I have been thnking of picking up another #9 but am concerned because the 3 that I have had in the past seem to have issues with the center pin.

To me, it seems there isn't much handle around the center pin near the bottom or spring side once the knife has been finished. Of the older ones I've seen, a few seem to have cracked handles near the center pin. Has anyone else noticed this or am I being way to picky. Does anyone else have center pin cracks on any of their newer #9's? I want to get another, but this is preventing me.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Good Question...I have been wanting a stag Queen and would be interested to know a little more about their F+F. I thought they were predominantly quite good but opinions are welcome (besides a rough cut edge). :)

Cheers, Shane

The fit and finish overall is very good. Afterall, you get what you pay for!
Queen reviews I think are prevalent throughout the forum and its history. I just haven't seen much about the center pins and handle cracks with this particular model. (Hoping it hasn't really been an issue.) The smaller stockmans, trappers, canoes, and whittlers I have had, never seem to have an issue with this.

I've only one #9 but mine has no issues and is a nice example of the breed.

I've been carrying a Queen #9 stockman in bonestag (or stag bone, I forget which they call it) for a couple of years now, no cracks yet. Apart from having to thin out the main blade, no issues at all.

I've never had any trouble with my Queens handle material cracking below the center pin....provided we are talking about any I have with natural handle material. :)

Now if we were talking about synthetic material I could say it is very common. I probably have 9 or 10 Queens with cracked scales all below the center pin...all synthetic handles.

I have a Case with Delrin handles, and there is a small crack at the center pin.

I have two #9s in stag bone and one in cocobolo, and I see no sign of cracking at the center pin. The stag bone versions have seen a lot of pocket time, too (one of them was purchased when they first became available in 2002).

Thanks so far for the input. Sounding good so far in that maybe I just had a bad luck streak. I'm hoping a few more will chime in to further put my hesitations to rest.

No cracking and the pins are almost as flush as the end pins.
