Hey guys. I've become very curious about the canoe pattern lately. My only one is a older Case model. I like the feel of the knife in my pocket, and how it feels in the hand. My only problem with the Case's is that I don't really like the blade shape. I like the look of the Queens much better. How do you guys that have Queen canoes like them? I really like the look of the Cozy Glen canoes. Are they still available anywhere? Thanks.

Queen canoes are great. I found a Cozy Glen on ebay, and got the regular flavored Queen Canoe for myself and my dad who turns 82 this month. As an old timer, he was quiet impressed with the D2 steel. He is hard on his Queen Canoe, and it shows it, but it keeps on working. They have a nice, smooth feel in the hand, and all of the versions I have seen are well made.

I have one, and it's a nice substantial pocketknife. Well made, and I like the D2, although it's really hard to sharpen without diamond hones. Once you get it sharp, though, it stays that way for a long time. Very comfortable in the pocket, too.

I figured the Cozy Glen's would be hard to come by. I see they have the amber stag and maple available though. How does the anber look in person? Every picture I see makes it look really shiney. All of the pictures of the maple look almost grey.

mdsmith, I think you gave me your number for the get together in Frederick a couple weeks ago. I have a honey bone canoe that you can check out (I'll have to take 'er home with me ;)).

Thanks man. That butterbean is pretty sweet looking too. Did it come with the long pull and swedge?

Nevermind, I just looked them up.

Thanks Dan. I may just bite the bullet and order one, I'm just not sure if I want the ACSB or maple. I'll email you and let you know.

I have the Queen D2 canoe and gave it away to my best friend. I really should pick up another one, before they become scarce. It really is a great knife. Canoes hide in back pockets real well.

I started a thread a while ago about the Canoe pattern:

and some nice pics and feedbacks came out.
Personally, my experience with the pattern was positive. The only downward was, another forumite (300bucks) posted pics of the Chuck Buck / AG Russell Canoe, and I was doomed.

I may have just had bad luck, but my experience with the Queen canoe is not a very good one. The first Queen knife I've owned (and likely the only) was a canoe, but it was sadly defective in a number of ways. After some time spent at the factory, it was replaced with a brand new canoe which was much improved over the previous, but it's got a loose and rattly pen blade. Now I really love the feel and look of the scales, and the edge is wicked nasty sharp after I took a Lansky to it, and the pattern fits very nicely in the watch pocket of my jeans, but that little rattle bugs me and gives me pause to consider that maybe other Queen Cutlery offerings might also have issues. This said, if you have the opportunity to handle a knife before you make a purchase, buy all means jump in and get one: the Queen canoe has a great feel to it and very nice details.

Good luck!

It took me three times before i got my Queen Canoe right but as its now, its excellent. I just took bevels 20 degree per side and that thing cuts like a laser. Queen is bit patchy. If you can you should personally check the knife or ask dealer check best one for you if he has multiple ones.

My queen canoe that arrived today looks great in every way, even bevels, centered blades, and came sharp enough to slice paper with both blades.
As a side note, the back spring on this one is the thickest i've ever seen on a traditional knife, about 0.157 inch, and the blade is just slightly thinner at the tang. One tank of a pocket knife..love it

I only have one Queen pocketknife and it's a Cozy Glen Canoe. It's a sweet little knife, very well made, with 1095 blades and strawberry bone scales. I like the look and feel and the action is crisp.
