Has anyone heard of Queen City knives. I bought this at a flea market yesterday; It was in a big pile of plastic chinese knives. The knife itself is 4.5 inches closed and has half stops and steel liners and bolsters. It has a pretty good snap on both blades. It says Queen City on the tang in some sort of script font. Not interested in price at all, this here's a keeper. I'm also interested in what kind of pattern this is.

It looks like a Queen City "cigar" jack knife. If you post a close up of the tang stamp, we could help you date it.

Queen City is made by Queen Cutlery.

Basic version of their more expensive English Jack. Queen City knives usually have 1095 steel. Great user!

I think what you have there is a Queen City Farmer's Jack. The script stamping is circa 1925-1945.
If any readers have a copy of Sargent's book, 6th edition, see page 343.

Good call, bdev.

This knife is NOT the same as the Queen City budget line that Queen released a few years back, but is from the original Queen City brand that inspired Queen to revive the name.

The pattern looks like what is known as an English Jack, to my eyes.

Nice find!

Sheesh, I get confused easily. From my purchase I would have guessed Queen City was a premium line from Queen Cutlery...
Mine is from this series, and the quality is equal to Great Eastern.

Well, you're right. In fact, we're all right.
The Queen City premium line, very nice knives, is distinct from the Queen City budget line. TThe budget line was released a few years before the premium line. The premium Queen City knives are on the same level as the Schatt & Morgan knives, top-notch fit & finish, just without quite as many embellishments like threaded or pinched bolsters. The budget Queen City line had wood and delrin covers (red/cherry, black, & yellow) and 1095 blades, no-frills work knives but of very high quality, that could be had in the $20 - 40 range. Very good knives in their own right.

Here are some pics of the budget line:

And.... these are both different from the Cozy Glen SFO knives, which were even earlier, and were also stamped Queen City. These were a very limited run of just a few patterns, and were also very high quality. I had a mini-trapper in bright red worm-groove bone that was beautiful.
