Hi Fellas,

What is your guys take on the Winterbottom Series of knives from Queen Cutlery? These have D2 blade steel which would be more rust resistant that the carbon steel of my Old Timers.

I carry a slipjoint in my left pocket at all times and the heat and humidity there is spotting my blades. I have applied Tuff Glide but when I use the knives and wipe them down I have notices very small spots forming on the blades. I need a knife that does not need to be constantly cleaned and oiled. :) So I bought a Henckels Whittler with blue scales and stainless blades that I am currently trying out. However I would like some alternative to stainless, thus my inquiery.

Maybe I should not worry about the blades discoloring and spotting or better yet just hand blue them and be done with it. :D

The last Queen slippie I bought was the cattle king stockman in the winterbottom delrin. The blades actually came sharp... all 3 of them! I had to do only minimal sharpening to make 'em tasty. This particular size stockman was a real surprise to me. Really begs to be used hard. The winterbottom delrin scales are jigged and quite handsome. I have been overall happy with Queen's D2 though the first two I bought came a bit on the dull side and had to be reprofiled on a diamond stone. Once that was accomplished, they seem to hold an edge for a good long time. It's not quite up to Bob Dozier D2, but what else is?;) Go ahead and take the plunge. I also like the jigged black cherry delrin more than I thought too. The fit and finish and walk and talk were all good on the one's I bought.

Hi Mongo,

I am looking at the Canoe pattern. It looks like it would make a nice addition to the left pocket. :)

I like the canoe because it gives you the larger heavier blades of a jack pattern in a slender frame dur to the single backspring design. The rounded ends and extended bolsters make it easy to carry. I have one of the D2 carved stag bone canoes and it is just begging to be put in my left pocket.....

Well fella's here she is . . .

I picker her up for $30.00. Not too bad I guess. Now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive so I can check it out. :)

Hi Guys,

I scored the canoe on ebay. sgt.strawberry is right about the Queen Cutlery Collectors site. It is the one I base my "must beat" prices on. Which mean I don't buy it on Ebay or any other place unless the price is lower than QCC. It's on it's way to me so soon I will be able to check it out in person. :)

The only thing I don't like about Queencutlerycollectors is that they charge your credit card immediately, even if Queen is out of stock. I'm waiting on a Cattle King that they say will be 4-6 weeks. All that time they've got my money. Oh well, it will be a nice surprise when it finally shows up.

Steve

Hi Guys,

The Canoe arrived today. It has some pretty wide blades on it for it's size. It's almoast like a baby sunfish :) I will have to drop it in the left pocket and give it a whirl for the next week or two.
