Queen Dan Burke Collaboration "Real Cattle Knife"

I picked up this knife from the Exchange and was pretty impressed with the construction. I suspect the parts must be laser cut or EDM wire cut like the Case Tony Bose collaboration knives. Any of you know for sure? In addition to an extremely precise fit, the blades have nice grinds which is something that I haven't seen on most Queen knives. The two secondary blades have a very thin grind and were quick to take a edge. The primary blade is a bit thicker than the secondary blades but good.... not oppressively thick like on some Queen knives. This is an extremely large knife but if Queen could do the same manufacturing process on a slimmer pattern, I think it would be extremely popular. I have not seen anything else from Queen that comes close to this quality.

That's a really nice one Jake. I remember reading up on it after searching for traditionals that have been made in BG-42.

It looks exceptionally crisp and clean with those finishes left on the last photo. Great piece :) Those grinds are the kind I'd like to see from Queen. Crisp and clean full flat. Time to start my search~ :D

I have an identical one, with the exception of the blade etch; says "Real Cattle Knife". Big, strong springs, heavy, and beautiful.

You got to 5hat just before me. I'd of snatched it up. That is an outstanding knife. Gently used no less, so you won't fret to put it in pocket. Another member here has a mint one that he posts from time to time. He will be along shortly.

Rockon you're blue! time to renew!

Let us know how that steel holds up Jake, I'd like to know your impressions. Not many production companies use it anymore due to it's difficulties to grind.

Sorry there wasn't one for both of us, Rockon75. If I ever decide to part with it, I'll keep you in mind. It had been reposted and I figured I'd give it a shot since I don't have any knives with BG-42. I had no idea they were constructed differently than Queen's regular production knives.

I haven't had it long enough to put it through the paces. But I gave the blades a quick touch up and they took a nice edge. From what I've heard, BG-42 should hold that edge for a long time.

I'm really shocked by the quality of the construction. It's a HUGE knife so it's not going to be for everyone but the quality is the best that I've seen from Queen. Hopefully, there will be more of these knives in the future. I'd be thrilled if they produced their sowbelly pattern with the same manufacturing processes. I think it would be a huge hit.

Nice acquisition Jake. I have the Rancher, which is the single blade version of your knife. This one is a handful, I can't imagine what your knife is like.

I don't think the Queen/Burke collabs are up to the level of the Case/Boses, but the BG42 on this blade is the finest I've experienced in a slipjoint. I've been on a hunt for one of the English Gentleman's Jacks in black pearl for a while now.

My Queen Dan Burke mini trapper is a gorgeous example dressed in winterbottom bone. I don't know too much about the collabs, but I know this knife is a pleasure to hold.

Nice.

I have a Burke/queen Grandad barlow I like very much. Little thick behind the edge, and in D2. Fit on the springs was not stellar, but a strong user.

My Queen/Pardue gunboat is better fit at the springs/bolsters, but inconsistent spring strength across the three blades, and way too thick behind the edges on the two spear blades.

I had one of those cattle knives in the basket more than once, but never bought because of the other two examples of Queen collabs I had.

It's definitely a handful. I think they could have dropped the spey further down which would have allowed the sheepfoot to also be dropped. They'd need to move the nail nick to the other side of the sheepfoot though.

I agree that it's not Case/Bose quality but some of the manufacturing processes may be similar. I think the parts must be cut out rather than punched out like on most production knives. But the other manufacturing steps are likely very different than Case/Bose. Although the grinds are good, they aren't Case/Bose level. And I don't think the Queen/Burke has bushings. But it's the best that I've seen from Queen.

Nice looking knife. Can you post a photo of the well so that I can see the construction? Like this...

I've always liked those cattle knives but I've never seen one in person. Dan Burke was posting knives for sale on BF three or four years ago.

Beautiful knife! So just how big is it? Have any comparison photos? Just curious.

Thank you, guys.

arrowhd. I think it's around 4 1/8" closed but it's large in all directions. It's a big 'un! :) I'll work on getting some comparison photos.

I had the smaller version of that barlow but haven't seen the Grandad barlow. It had the thickest blades that I've ever seen on a knife! I was relieved that the cattle knife had much better primary grinds.

Thx Tim- not sure what's up, I renewed my gold 9-27-pm'ed the mods. Thx 4 heads up.
