I see the Queen Doctor knife about the place. Have done for a while and keep meaning to pick one up

But there is a problem, maybe. I refer to the model with the pen blade, rather than the spatula

Some places list this Doctor as 420HC others as D2

Does anyone know the story here?

Is it that two steels are available? Or, rather, most dealers thinking the ranges are in D2 and making a mistake in their advertising?

All help gratefully received :)

As far as I know, the Doctor's knife only comes in 420HC. I think where the confusion sets in is some series such as the Birdseye Maple have D2 blades on all the other knives in the series so dealers assume the Doctor's knife is D2 as well. I have yet to see one that actually is.

A lot of dealers mistakenly assume all of Queen's current line are made of D2. Here's a vendor's pic of a Doctor's Knife, which this particular dealer lists as D2 (it isn't). Most of the D2 blades are marked 'Tool Steel' (similar labelling on the box, also). I've also seen the Queen fillet (fixed blade) knife listed as D2, although that one isn't (420HC). The tang on the actual D2 knives is also marked 'PH-D2'.
