I just ordered the Queen Gunstock in honey amber bone from knivesshipfree. I've been admiring it for awhile and decided to splurge with some Christmas money I was given. It looks to be robust enough for real use and is really pleasing to my eye.

I've heard that Queens D2 often has a poor edge out of the box and is hard to sharpen - is that really a concern?

If you've got a diamond hone of some sort, you're ready for D2. They're cheap these days - a fine grit will do. Use a fine ceramic to finish the edge, and you're ready to cut for a while. D2 is certainly tougher than what many are used to, but it's worth it -- and with a diamond hone, it's no sweat. Now doing any significant thinning/reprofiling of the edge (and I find I need to do this on just about any knife from any maker) may take a little while, even with a diamond hone - so be patient. But once that's done, you'll be fine.

Recently bought a couple of of D2 Queens and they were both nicely sharp out of the box.
Didn't even need a touch-up.

Large toothpick and a canoe. Real nice fit and finish on both, too.

Maybe Queen is putting a sharper edge on 'em now, I don't know.

My honey amber bone gunstock came with a decent edge, and better fit and finish than most of my queen knives. Use a diamond hone and you should be fine. I like to finish with a strop to make sure I got the wire edge removed.

All the Queen knives I purchased came with a good edge.

But...
I rebeveled them using a DMT Aligner from course, fine to extra fine.

I am not a sharpness phreak, but,
I was able to whittle hair like a fuzz stick!!

well worth the extra work

I just got a #26 BEM stockman today and I resharpened two of the three blades with my Lanskey and Sharpmaker. It shaves real well now.

I must say the fit and finish is great and the wood grain is beautiful. I'll probably by a couple more.

I bought a Queen Copperhead a few weeks back. It was fairly sharp as received but I wanted a little more bevel to the edge. I started the project with a couple of oil stones, both being pretty fine. Ended up with several hours of whetting before getting the blade where I wanted it. To me it was worth the work. A pretty and well made knife with a razor edge. It is rapidly becoming my favorite EDC. D2 does take extra work and I can sure see why folks are recommending the diamond hones.
