On another thread we have been discussing breaking springs. Mostly on Queen knives.
What I would like to know is when did Queen make Dan Burke Barlows.
Hopefully some of you Queen experts can help out with that info.

I’m trying to link for the first time on the new system... there’s an oldie thread here.

I found an old dealer listing and in the description it stated “2010 Limited Release”.

I didn’t link it here because I’m unsure if it’s permitted.

I did a BF search for Dan Burke and if I had to guess, based on the search results and the previous posts, I'd guess 2010.

Would you say that was when Queen started its slide into the abyss?
On another note who around here would be able to make new springs? Costly, probably but in my eyes such a great pattern that should be fixed.

I'd say that started to happen when Bill Howard departed to set up his own outfit. Quality began sliding down hill after his departure. But 2010 sounds about right if you were plotting the course of Queen's demise.

Don't want this thread going off in the wrong direction but anyone know of any other brands that this has happened while in storage? Didn't think it was a good idea to start a new thread for this...

i am pretty sure ive seen or heard of a gec spring's breaking. not remotely near the amount of Queen's incidents. So far on this forum, I haven't seen anything from canal street snapping in my years on this forum. However, my mileage is limited to mostly this forum. There are some folks who peruse others like AAPK.

Gary Peregrin Peregrin has had a couple of spring breaking issues with another maker, if I remember correctly.
That was a Hiroaki Ohta custom. Hiro had me send it to him in Japan. He repaired it for free and shipped it back, total time 14 days. I've had the knife for a decade I think. Great service for sure!

Queen appears to suffer from by far the most REPORTED spring fractures, but as you point out, doesn't mean it doesn't occur with other brands. Canal Street? Unlikely they'd fracture.... as all the knives I've had from them have very mild snap to say the least ;):D
