Queen Knife Steel

Lookin' over some past posts and realized that I still don't know what the steel is, anyone have a clue?

For a knife company to reveal the type of steel used is a fairly recent phenomenon. Knife manufacturers didn't do that much in the 1970's. I think the the only way to find out is talk to someone at the company or to someone that used to work for the company.

I have a Master Cutlers Gunstock that has a Q79 stamp on the tang, so made in 1979. When I called the factory to ask them about the steel I spoke to someone who was working there when the knife was made. He recalled that it was 440A, and seemed to think highly of that batch of it. If your knife is stainless, or QueenSteel, I'd think 440A. In any case, they were happy to help me so you could do worse than placing a call to the factory.

Thanks guys I might just do that.

In the meantime let's see if this thread generates anymore responses.
