I have been considering both of these knives lately for a gift to a friend, but don't live near a brick and mortar store that stocks them. Do any of you kind folks own both of these? I would love to see a side by side shot of them open and closed if possible to get a better grasp of how they vary dimensionally.
Thanks,
Steve

I had a Queen toothpick until just the other day, and it's a mighty fine piece of kit. Can't speak to the "utility"/slimline trapper, since I haven't tried one. The toothpick, however, is a great user, especially in Queen's D2 steel.

Here is an important question. How big a knife nut is your friend and is he up to reprofiling a D2 blade (or are you?). Some of the Queens have thin enough blades (Congress, medium stockman) that a reprofiling isn't necessary, just a good sharpening. I don't know if either model fits into the thick or thin variety, but your friend, if not a nut, is likely to appreciate the thinner bladed offering. I suspect the utility falls in the things category, don't know about the toothpick.

While I am not a big fan of the toothpick pattern, I would suggest that you do not get a utility/slimline trapper from Queen unless you can inspect it in person. I had two, the edge was incredibly thick on the utility. Zebrawood, so it was of a later manufacture. I got it resharpened by Scott Gossman, but I was not that enthusiastic with the knife directly from Queen.

I am very happy with some of their knives, but the company is not consistent. I'm just glad they're not consistently bad. Again, I am echoing what everyone else has said, I am hoping that with new direction, the company can return to former glory etc ;).

steveo not sure if this will help, here is a Case large toothpick and slimline trapper. Never had any trouble with any of my Case knives, Queen have always taken alotof edge work so you all might want keep that in mind. Good luck
God Bless

Thanks Lamech, that does help. The Queen and Case offerings are close enough size wise to use your photo comparison. As to all the comments on geometry, I am very aware of Queen's inconsistant grinding. I have a copperhead that is convex ground and very thick - even sharp it doesn't cut well. I have others that are ground to an awesome .010 or so behind the edge. Anyways, I will sharpen it up before gifting (or return to vendor if poorly ground). However, it definitely has to be a Queen do to sentimental reasons.
Thanks!

I have both the Queen Toothpick and the Utility
Both are slicers
The toothpick is a much more substantial knife, with a wider blade and a bolster balanced to the blade size
The Utility is narrow and with a thin bolster, a great kitchen type knife

The Case Utility is also 4 1/4" but the blade is much much shorter
Not a good comparison
