Queen Mountain man blade play

I've read a lot of posts about the Mountain Man lockbacks and how many of them seem to have blade play. What I'm wondering is if this problem is also present in the non lockback mountain men? I'm considering one of these or one of the GEC knives in #72 or 73 single blade pattern....Thanks Bob

I have a Schatt & Morgan mountain man lockback and a Gec 73 slipjoint.

Mount man, as new, has no blade play. Fit and finish is fine. Blade is dull.

The 73 came (from an official dealer) with a blade so bent, it can't be sharpened on a flat stone, deep scratches on the spring and a big step between spring and blade when open. Blade is dull, too.

So I guess it's hit and miss with both.

The non-lock version is not nearly as bad, as it has a backspring instead of a lockbar.

My Queen Mountain Man (non lock back) has no blade play at all. No problem with it.

I have both.
My lockback has the not unusual traditional lockback minor vertical movement.
My slipjoint has as much blade play as you would expect in any slipjoint, which is to say, "none".
