What's the general consensus on this knife? Obviously it's a queen and their reputation speaks for themselves; but, it's a lockback unlike the rest. I'd like to know how sturdy this model is as well as the action (smooth or gritty). Also, how easy is it to open and close? Any other comments on this knife would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One of the best!

The D2 blade holds an edge really well.

Mine was a little "gritty" when I first got it, but not more than some other folders. After a week or so it smoother out.

Opens very easy and the lockup is ROCK solid, the lock snaps in place with a resounding "click" and it locks up like a tank!

I absolutely love mine, possibly my favorite traditional lockblade.

That's one hell of a review!

permitting there are no major qualms by other members...

I think you just sold me on that knife.

Heck you gave me achance to show mine off again!

Here is mine with a Victorinox SAK that I had Jigged Elk scales made for to make a matched set.

I also have a Schatt & Morgan Mountain Man with ATS-34 blade and it's a total work of art, I am a nut for the Remington 1306 pattern anyway, and Queen makes the best of the reproductions!

I have the Queen in D2 and the S&M in ATS-34. Can't go wrong either way. Now I just need one of the Queens in 1095 from Cumberland.

Do you think that since I live in S. Florida that I should opt to go w/ the
ATS34 blade over the D2? or will the queen be fine with a little marine tuf cloth?

thanks.

I have carried Queen D2s in very moist climates- including south FL--and Marine tuf-cloth worked just fine.

My experience with queen D2 is that it pits pretty readily. Especially if you use your knife in the kitchen. I've had it pit with lemons and pickles pretty readily. It doesn't seem to rust, but when it pits...it's the pits. Their ATS34 is excellent, and holds up real well to rigoruous use.

I am a heavy "sweater", and when I first bought a Queen D2 knife, I had problems with it pitting, but after I developed the routine of wiping it off with Rem-Oil or Inox once or twice a week, no more problems.

It's really a hard choice, brownshoe is right also, their ATS-34 is great, so you'll have a hard time making a bad choice here!

Sorry to ask; but, who makes a ATS34 mnt. man other than S&M? Are you saying that Queen does as well?

Queen makes Schatt & Morgan knives, it's the same company.

Nutshell history.

Schatt & Morgan was the name of a cutlery co. many years ago, former Schatt & Morgan employees started up Queen when they left S&M, later they were so successful they returned and bought S&M and now make both.

I just got a S&M Mt. Man File & Wire in the mail the other day. Bigger than I expected but its really nice. It opens VERY smoothly out of the box which kinda surprised me since I find most knives are a bit gritty at 1st. It was very sharp out of the box also. Im not sure how easy ATS-34 is to sharpen but I guess we'll find out someday. The lock up is SOLID, no play in the blade that I can see. I will say that it is kinda tough to unlock the blade from the open posisiton, but I think i just have to get used to the knife. I got the knife for when i go hiking or when i walk the trails near my house, but i like the knife so much i think ill have to edc it for the a few weeks :D

I also have a Queen Gunstock in D2 and like the others said it does pit (but i think it was my fault for not taking care of it). Luckily its only on the pen blade and not on the main blade. Anyways happy hunting,
