Ok, from what I can tell, the Queen Mini Hunter and Copperhead are the same basic knives except the hunter comes a liner-lock and the blade shapes are slightly different. Am I right? As knives get bigger I prefer to have a lock.

Regarding the Mountain Man, the new ones are D2, but some sites have others in 1095. I saw some really nice ones at Cumberland, $69 with bone handles. I actually like the wood handles better as jigged bone can look like plastic to me. I would like to see nature color bone, not jigged.

I also saw some in bird's eye maple in D2 that are under $55. I can't seem to find the Cocobolo at any retail sites.

To me the Mountain Man is the perfect size, not to big, no to small, a good woods knife. I prefer wood and 1095. Decisions, decisions.

Queen makes the Mountain Man pattern with Queen tang stamps with D2 blade and bone or birdseye maple handle. The cocobolo version, as was noted, has been discontinued and is getting hard to find. They also make it with 1095 blade and bone handle (root beer or crimson), as well as stag.

And you can get the Schatt and Morgan versions in various flavors of bone with ATS-34 blade.

There is a history of blade play with the Mountain Man. Mine has a little, not too bad. Overall, I really like it.

My S&M ATS-34 Mountain Man has a little bit of vertical blade play.
No side play though, which to me would be much more annoying.

That's a shame; I always thought the Queen D2 cocobolo knives were truly great bargains.

Got my cocobolo toothpick for about $38 bucks a couple of years ago, couldn't believe how much knife for that price!

Here's one I just got from one of my bladebrothers. It'll be doing some pocket time. :)

fewpop, It's pictures like this that really make me want a Copperhead. Very nice, and the bone looks much better than there website portrays.

I wish Queen would spend a little money and update their website.

Would you guys go D2 or 1095?

Both have given me good service. But in my ( rather limited :jerkit: ) experience, D2 is the Queen of cutlery steels. (no pun intended:p )

1095 sure is easier to sharpen, but overall I like D2 better.

Both are great "using" steels.
