Hey everyone,

I put in an order last night for two of these:

I have been looking for a new whittler and I have read that Queen is a good company. I found this one with 1095 blades and no etching. They should be here next week.

Does anyone have any feedback on them while I wait?? :D

Here are the details:
·Genuine Stag handle
·1095 carbon steel blades
·Nickel silver bolsters,pins,and shield
·Brass liners
·2-1/2" clip point blade length
·1-1/2" pen blade length
·1-1/2" coping blade length
·3-1/2" closed
·SMKW exclusive

Thanks,

Kevin

Hopefully I will later today, or Monday by the latest when my Queen whittler (amber bone stag, D2) arrives in the mail. Should be the same quality, just different steel and handles. I'd love to get ahold of one like you've got coming to you, but I have issues with SMKW (but that's a topic for another forum).

Thanks, and yeah I just saw your thread. I can't wait to hear your feedback. I am also interested in how Queen handles 1095. Thanks!

BTW, I haven't ordered from SMKW in about ten years, but in my exhausted search I came across the above pictured knife. I am interested in your feedback of them, but yes, this is not the place. Please shoot me a PM with your thoughts if you get the chance.

Thanks,

Kevin

thats a nice one. it's hard to go wrong with stag and 1095. i just bought a queen whittler with D2 steel and amber bone, and i couldn't be happier with it.

If the 2010 forum knife is an example of what Queen does with 1095 I'd say they do it very well.

Nice looking whittler.

I have several of thier economy line in delrin and carbon

the carbon steel they use is excellent'
It takes and holds a very sharp edge for a good while
Also the carbon blades are thinner than the D2 so the whole knife is slimmer

The carbon bladed Teardrop from Queen is excellent steel, so is their Harness Jack. It's easy to sharpen yet it retains and slices, frankly, I prefer it to their D2.

I just got my Queen ACBS Whittler, and unfortunately there's a fatal flaw with it. See here.

I hope neither of yours has this issue.

Thanks guys, I think it should be just what I am looking for from the feedback.

Planterz - That is a deal breaker. If mine come like that they will be going straight back. The FF on that one looked awful IMO.

We will see. Keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes up :P

Ouch, that's really too bad. This is a neat little knife too.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of you as well... hope you both get one that makes you happy, and hope that one was a fluke, Planterz.

Much like a knife I got from another reputable maker a couple months ago (posted in general forum, was not a traditional slippie), it was something that should NOT have ever passed QC. That kind of stuff really makes you wonder.

Just got a shipping notice today. I will be sure to post a couple pics and feedback when I receive them. In case anyone is interested in the knife. Peter, I am hoping for a cutter ;-)

How thick are the scales on these knives? I'm looking at the gunstock, but clunky stag is one of my pet peeves, so I'm a little hesitant to order it.

I just received the pair, I took some pics and will post them with my impressions.

First, a few pics of my Henckels, and Custom, the two slipjoints that have seen the most carry and use. The Henckels by far seeing the bulk.

Just so you have an Idea of what I look for.

Onto the first complaint, both have blade play on the main blades

So, my feedback that has nothing to do with using these knives therefore no impact on any judgement passed on their actual functioning ability...

The fit and finish is far from what I expected. It is okay but I have sub 50 dollar knives with much better. I was very disappointed. Of the two, one has great snap and pressure on all blades and the second has one secondary blade a little different feeling. On both the secondary blades lock tight and have no blade play. On both the main blades have play and it is simple to me why...poor fit and finish.

Okay, so put that aside, the knives are great looking IMO, I love the looks and while they didn't kick my MOP out of my pocket I am going to pick a user and give it a run. They are both keepers and I am glad to add them to my collection. I would not recommend Queen to a friend without making mention of QC issues though. I would actually recommend a sub 50 dollar Boker. Anyhow, just a little quickie. When I get around to making one a user I will post back on some more important stuff, like actual performance ;-P

That's a shame. I have a Queen City Canoe that is from the same series and it has the same quality control issues. The spring is lazy and the main blade wobbles and flexes when open. The grind is horrible (but what do you expect from Queen). The problem is, it is a beautiful looking knife. I put it away with my other Queen knives that all have issues that niggle with me. I've resolved that I will never buy another Queen made knife. I hate to admit that I will not buy Queen anymore, but the "dud" rate I get from Queen just seems so much higher that from other companies. And, please understand, to me a "dud" doesn't mean the knife will not function, just that there are niggling issues or it does not work for me despite its aesthetics.
