Queen's little two blade Wharncliffe

For some time now I've been on a quest for the ultimate watch pocket knife. My yellow Case CV peanut has served nobly in that capacity but it (sorry peanut fans) is not quite perfect. My hand would prefer a knife just a little bit longer and my pocket could go for something a tad thinner. The Queen two blade Wharncliffe from AG Russell seemed to be a likely candidate. I have already had a couple of Amber Stag D2 bladed Queens and they are right at the top of my favorites list so the little Wharncliffe was an easy choice. I ordered one. It's here now and these are my reactions after living with it about a month.

Well…the Amber Stag on my new knife only looks a little like the Amber Stag I already had. There's a lot more white and yellow as the pictures clearly show. I would have preferred a better match.

Earlier I mentioned my thinness goal. The Wharncliffe is a single spring design as opposed to the two springer peanut so it's bound to be thinner; right? Well, mechanically it is. Sadly, the Queen's scales are so thick and misshapen that it ends up being thicker than the peanut!

On the other hand, mechanically the knife is about perfect. Fit and finish are fine and the pulls and snap only a little softer than my peanut. There's no blade rub that I can detect. And finally, there's those D2 blades that I really like. As expected, they were not notably sharp on delivery but they are now and I expect them to remain so for a very long time.

Bottom line. I'm happy. Just not as happy as I expected to be.

Looks great to me! I'm a fan of the mini-copperhead from Case. Very handy little knife.

That stag has ageing potential though, it will darken in time. You can try giving it a tea-dye bath as well. It is a bit thick for a single-spring knife though but it ensures good grip. I'm keen on the CASE Mini-Copperhead as well. RR does a remarkably nice one too but with Clip master.

Thanks, Will

Great looking knife, something about that pattern is just really aesthetically pleasing :) I'm also a huge fan of single springs, especially with 2 blades and catch bit

That Queen is a beauty imo.
I just looked that knife up, do you think the Ram's horn would have been thinner?

I like your Queen. I have one of the same pattern; I find the nail nick on the secondary a bit close to the scale; I find I have to look at the knife to open the small blade, but it's nearly moot with me as I use the large blade on it (and my mini copperheads) 99+% of the time anyway. Workmanship on them is pretty good IMO.
