quench heating question

I want to try using a brine quench for some 10xx steels; I'm wondering what method is best for heating the water? I seem to remember that my grandfather used to have some sort of a coil that was electrically powered, and it would pretty much bring a tank of water to a boil, given enough time. Is this what people are using? And if so what is this device called and where could I find it?

Also, what is the best quenching temperature?

Thanks,
Jeramy

Stick a 1" piece of round mild steel in the forge, when it is red stick it in the brine and stir.
The device is called a baby bottle heater or a one cup hot water heater. They are pretty much yard sale finds nowdays.
