How often should you change your quench oil? How many times can you use it before it's no good?

This oughta be good for a laugh. I've used the same container of olive oil for 5 quenches and it still looks good.... hmm.. :p
I mean it does have floaters in it and I'm sure it wouldnt taste too hot , but it still seems fine for quenching puprposes.

Another reason for using commercial quenchants. They are designed for it and minimize degradation from multiple quenching.

You change that stuff!!! Dang, nobody ever told me.I just add more as it gets low.Seriously, unless it looks burnt or is contaminated, most comercial quenchants will last for a very long time (years?).

Im going on a year for mine. Still looks fairly clean so dont see any need to change as of yet.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if it broke down from heating and cooling and became ineffective. This is all still new to me. Just thought I'd check it out with the experts. :)
