Hey there,
I have forged a couple of different types of traditional Japanese swords and knives, i am at the point of quenching them into cold water.
The problem is that i have no experience in Japanese quenching/yakiire (first time) and want to know at what Color (temperature) i have to quench the swords and knives to get the best out of the steel without to much stress (like when i heat it to much) and create the martensite and hamon on these blades.
Is there any one who can give me some advise please?
About the steel i am using for these projects are:
- Mercedes spring steel
- Suminagashi
- Damascus out of L6 and 1075
- Damascus out of wrought iron and a homogene high carbon steel
Cheers Igor
