Hi all, what type of quenchant should I use when heat treating ex-lawn mower blades that I have made into knives?

thanks.....................
Johhny:eek:

Just kidding:D You can use just about any type of oil. Some use tranny fluid. heat the oil to 140 degrees and quench away.

I was letting my mind get away from me with the bong water thing. when you said ex-lawn mower blades it made me think of grass:D

lol, ignore the bong water comment and read his next one. Transmission fluid, olive oil, motor oil, any kind of oilw ould work just fine for you.

Water will give too harsh a quench and most likely crack your blade.

And you relaly need help gouge. :D

Sorry, I'm new at this, whats bong water
Water from the great Bong Swamp. It's near Woodstock!:D

No...Crack is different stuff. That comes from the great crack river near Harlem..:D :D :footinmou

Now the real answer.:o Any type of oil should work but I like Crisco. Warm it first.
