So, I've done some reading, with regards to heat treating O-1, and a few questions have come up that forum searchs and the web haven't answered.

- how big a quench tank do you need? hidden tang blade of O-1, overall length is 8", max thickness 3/16".

- when quenching do you plunge the blade straight in and hold
- plunge edge first and holde
- straight in or edge first, and stir?

Basically, how do I quench?!

Thanks,
~ Dagr

bout all i can help you with is that most feel that 1 gal per pound of hot steel works
so far as how to i dont realy oil quench sorry
i do know some just do the edge and others do the blade virtical and others still do it horazontal

I use a large volume of oil (5 gal.) I dunk the blade in vertically point first.

You have a choice of vertically or edge , NOT flat which will warp the blade . If you're using a 5 Gallon bucket point down is convenient. Move the blade back and forth [not side to side ] .
